This Gasket and collar slips into the horn of the base pan. Your Emptor and Bag attach to the horn in. This gasket is necessary for a proper seal of the Emptor to the Base Pan. If your gasket is loose or torn you will need to replace it to avoid a dust leak. Currently Kirby is supplying horn gaskets with Ivory collars. The photo is a file photo.
Installation:
First you must removal the old part by inserting a flat blade screwdriver between the base pan and the gasket. Twist the blade while prying the gasket ring toward the center of the exhaust horn. Remove the bent ring by pulling upward with a pair of pliers. On older units (G3/4) the gasket adaptor may be metal and be riveted in. It should still pry out with the screwdriver, do not remove or grind the rivets. The new gasket’s color will fit inside the rivets.
Now clean the debris from the inside of the base pan. Kirby’s manual says that the new horn gasket will snap into the base pan. I always applied a little silicon seal or window caulk to the base pan starting at the lip and down inside the horn about 1 inch below the lip before inserting the new horn gasket. Put the emptor back on and do not remove the emptor for 48 hours to allow the sealant to cure. You may use the vacuum while the sealant is curing.
